Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series has been a part of the rumour mill for quite some time, however, the South Korean tech giant is yet to say anything about it officially. A tipster is now suggesting that Galaxy Note 20+ smartphone will have a 108-megapixel ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor, and the company will use a laser focus sensor, instead of the ToF sensor. Additionally, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has reportedly received its Bluetooth SIG certification, indicating the phone's model number as well. Previous reports have suggested that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series will launch in August.

According to notable tipster IceUniverse (translated) on Weibo, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20+ will pack a 108-megapixel ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor, accompanied by a 13-megapixel ISOCELL Slim 3M5 sensor with periscope lens and a 12-megapixel ISOCELL Fast 2L3 sensor with an ultra-wide lens. It is also hinted that the periscope lens will support 50x digital zoom instead of 100x Space Zoom as seen on Galaxy S20 Ultra. The Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor will likely be replaced by a laser focus sensor, assisting the main camera, the tipster claims.

The Galaxy Note 20+ is also tipped to come with a 4,370mAh battery. Back in April, the phone was on spotted on a Geekbench listing where its model number SM-N986U was noted. Additionally, it was speculated that the phone has an octa-core Qualcomm processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and Android 10.

However, the same model is reportedly spotted on the Bluetooth SIG certification website, where the name of the phone is listed as Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. As per the screenshot of the listing shared by Nashville Chatter, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra supports Bluetooth v5.0. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series is rumoured to launch in August an online event. An earlier report has suggested that Samsung may unveil the next-generation Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 around the same time but there's no official confirmation from the company yet. It is advised that the above information should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Samsung's new subscription bundles a Galaxy S20 with Microsoft 365

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 family is expensive when even the ‘entry’ model begins around $1,000. The company thinks it has a solution, though: turn the phone into more of a service. It just launched an Access plan that provides an S20 phone, a Premium Care warranty, Microsoft 365 and 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage for a monthly fee. Prices range from $37 per month for the base S20 through to $48 for the S20 Ultra. You can upgrade or cancel at any time, although you’ll pay $100 if you either get a new phone in less than nine months or cancel in less than three months.

The device payments will last for three years if you don’t upgrade, although Samsung is clearly hoping you’ll use this to keep getting its latest phones. Trade-ins don’t count, so keep that in mind if you think you could get a better overall deal by selling your old phone.

Monthly payments by themselves aren’t new, of course. Many carriers distribute phone payments over the course of two-plus years, and Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program gets you the latest handset every year if you’re willing to keep paying. Samsung, like others, is trying to soften the blow of buying a phone. The Microsoft tie-in is unique, though, and suggests that Samsung is using Access to treat its phones more like services than one-time purchases. That’s not surprising — Apple and others have pivoted toward services in part because they offer a steady, predictable money stream instead of the usual hardware sales roller coaster.

Like a firstborn, there’s a lot of pressure on flagship phones to be the best, which is why the crown in the Samsung’s Galaxy S20 range – the S20 Ultra 5G – is packed to the brim with features.

The main selling point is its quad camera array made up of a 108-megapixel main camera, 48-megapixel telephoto camera, 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and VGA depth sensor.

The S20 Ultra’s selfie camera boasts the highest resolution yet on a Samsung flagship at 40 megapixels.

New in the S20 range is a feature called Single Take that records a video and shoots stills all at one go, giving you the option to turn them into slow-mo shots and even GIFs.

Early adopters did complain that the 108-megapixel shooter focused slowly, but the latest software update should fix that.

Smooth operator

Personally, I prioritise a good screen over killer cameras, considering how much time is spent staring at the phone.

And the S20 Ultra’s screen has a 120Hz refresh rate which makes everything from gaming to just scrolling a joy.

It’s even tempting to rapidly scroll through Wiki or Reddit pages just to see how silky smooth it is.

The higher refresh rate is great for fast-paced games like shooter Fortnite and racer Asphalt 9: Legends.

It also boasts a 240Hz sampling rate, making it much more responsive to touch, a great feature for twitch gaming.

However, there is a catch – to use the higher refresh rate, the screen resolution has to be lowered from WQHD+ (3,200 × 1,440 pixels) to FHD+ (2,400 × 1,080 pixels).

Even though the phone has a large 6.9in screen, the lower resolution is hardly noticeable.

Power-packed

Don’t worry about gaming or catching up on a TV series on this device. The 5,000mAh battery is one of the biggest yet on a Samsung flagship and it’s rated for 17 hours of Internet usage. Even with heavy use, it only needs to be charged every other day or so.

Despite the mammoth battery, it doesn’t take ages to charge, as it supports 45-watt charging.

However, only a 25-watt charger is included which takes about an hour or so to fully charge the phone.

The device’s 12GB RAM makes multitasking a breeze, as the phone is able to juggle a ton of apps.

The internal storage is only 128GB though – this is easily remedied with a microSD card or by using Cloud storage services.

Conclusion

The Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G lives up to its name, as it’s a device that boasts ultra performance and features.

At RM4,999, the price is steep but you are getting 5G support which should make the smartphone future-proof for a couple of years at least.

The smartphone comes in Cosmic Grey and Cosmic Black, and is available at Samsung Experience stores and authorised retailers nationwide, as well as online.

PROS: Excellent cameras; 120Hz screen; supports 5G, big battery, solid build.

CONS: Steep price; rear camera protrudes.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is one of Samsung’s biggest mid-range entries for 2020. This is the first time Samsung’s A-series has been available in the US, arriving as an affordable option for people who want a Samsung smartphone but don’t want to pay $1,000 to get one.

Samsung Galaxy A51 review: Plenty of competition

For $399, the Galaxy A51 has a lot of competition. There’s the new iPhone SE with Apple’s newest flagship processor, last year’s Pixel 3a, which is hovering around $350 but has been recently discounted even further, and a plethora of phones from Redmi, Realme, Motorola, Nokia, and more that bring a ton of value to the table. And with the Pixel 4a looming on the horizon, it’s going to take a lot to get customers to purchase this phone at retail price. Let’s see if it stacks up.

How’s the Galaxy A51’s build quality?

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is made of a material Samsung calls “Glasstic”. This gives it a higher quality feel than pure plastic phones, but it definitely doesn’t feel as premium as something like the Samsung Galaxy S20 series. It’s still plastic after all, though I didn’t mind it nearly as much as the plastic on other phones in this price range, such as the Moto G Stylus. The phone is smooth but not slippery, and fairly light at just 158g. For comparison, the OnePlus 8 Pro weighs 199 grams.

The rim of the device is aluminum and feels pretty high quality. On the right, you’ll find a power button and volume rockers, with a USB-C port, speakers, and a headphone jack on the bottom. The left side of the phone houses a dual-SIM card tray, which can hold two SIMs and an SD card up to 512GB. While most phones double up on the 2nd slot to allow for either a SIM card or microSD card, the A51 has two dedicated SIM slots and a separate microSD card tray. That’s nice to see.

I quite like the crazy color and design on the rear of the device. It’s definitely different, and I appreciate phones with interesting colors. The model I have is Prism Crush Black, which gives off a sheen of rainbow color when hit with light from the right angle. It also comes in Prism Crush Blue and Prism Crush White, which offer similar rainbow-colored reflections.

The speakers in the phone got fairly loud but lacked any sense of bass. I wouldn’t use the speakers to directly listen to music, though the headphone jack is a big plus.

The vibration motor on this phone was very bad. It’s light and tinny and feels almost loose.

How’s the screen?

For a sub-$400 phone, the Samsung Galaxy A51 has a surprisingly good display. Most mid-range phones use LCD’s instead of OLEDs, but Samsung was able to stuff in a large OLED screen with a fairly dense pixel count. This is a 1,080p screen. Considering most high-end phones come in 1,080p mode by default, this didn’t bother me. Colors were punchy and bright, which is common for Samsung panels. It’s great.

One annoying thing about this display is the hole-punch camera cutout in the center of the phone. While I normally like hole punch cutouts, Samsung decided to put a silver metal ring around the camera, which makes it much more obvious than it would be without the ring. This isn’t a dealbreaker, but it forces you to notice it even when the display is off. I don’t understand why Samsung did this.

This is a surprisingly good display on such an inexpensive phone.

There’s an optical in-display fingerprint reader on the Galaxy A51. Unfortunately, the fingerprint reader is slow and inaccurate. It took about two seconds to register my fingerprint every time. Moreover, the accuracy rate seemed to be about 50% while I used the device, which is pretty bad. You might be better off using the pin unlock or even the 2D face unlock option for speed and accuracy.

How’s the Galaxy A51’s performance?

With a mid-range Exynos chip and just 4GB of RAM, we didn’t expect performance to be great on the Samsung Galaxy A51. After using the device for a while and running our benchmarks, we confirmed our fears.

I haven’t said this about a phone for a while, but the Samsung Galaxy A51 is slow. You can feel a delay opening apps and multitasking, and there would often be stuttering while swiping around the UI. The phone used 1.9GB of the 4GB of available RAM even with all apps closed, which is a pretty bad sign. In some testing late last year, we concluded that modern versions of Android need about 6GB of RAM to run smoothly, and that was verified by this device.

In benchmarks, we saw a similar story. The phone lagged behind a majority of devices in our testing. Check out the results below.

What is battery life like?

• 4,000 mAh
• 15W charging
• No wireless charging

The Samsung Galaxy A51 has a fairly large 4,000mAh battery. With a low-powered CPU and a small amount of RAM, you’d hope the device would get killer battery life. And honestly, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t as great as it should have been. The phone lasted about 29 hours, from 8am one day to 1pm the next day. This certainly isn’t as good as phones with bigger batteries like the LG V60, but I’m glad it can at least last a full day. I got about four and a half hours of screen-on time on this device.

The A51 supports 15W charging, which isn’t the fastest. Considering the original Google Pixel supported 18W charging in 2016, this feels a bit sluggish for 2020. Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S20 devices charge at 25W by default these days, so I would have liked to see 18W at the minimum on the Galaxy A51.

What are the Galaxy A51’s cameras like?

For a sub-$400 phone, the Galaxy A51 has some decent cameras and quite a few of them to boot. There’s a main 48mp sensor that bins down to 12MP images, as well as wide-angle and macro lenses, a depth sensor, and a 32MP front-facing camera.

Dynamic range seemed good on this camera set, though it did feel like the photos were a bit underexposed — probably to avoid blowing out highlights. That being said, some camera systems can force the shadows up too much for the sake of dynamic range, which produces an annoying gray haze in the shadows. Samsung phones have traditionally done this, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the A51 did not.

Colors were generally good, but the A51 tended to oversaturate specific colors such as blue and green far too much. This is likely to make the sky and plants pop, but it made some images look a bit cartoony. Samsung has always done this with its camera systems, though, so I’m not exactly surprised.

The depth sensor seemed to help quite a bit, and I’m glad it works on more than just people and animals. While the bokeh could definitely look a little more natural, object detection and cutout was pretty accurate. I was pleasantly surprised. Hair detection remained fuzzy, but that’s common with artificial bokeh. This mode also tended to soften skin more than I would like.

सैमसंग के फ्लैगशिप स्मार्टफोन सैमसंग गैलेक्सी S20 (Samsung Galaxy S20) की कीमत में कटौती की गई है। हालांकि यह कटौती भारतीय यूजर्स के लिए नहीं हैं। चीन में यह फोन अब 6699 युआन यानी लगभग 70,885 रुपये में मिल रहा है। चीन में यह फोन प्री-सेल ऑर्डर के लिए उपलब्ध है। फोन की ऑफिशल सेल कल यानी 1 जून को है। यह कंपनी का फ्लैगशिप फोन है जो कई धांसू फीचर्स के साथ आता है। फोन में क्वालकॉम स्नैपड्रैगन 865 प्रोसेसर का इस्तेमाल किया गया है। फोन में 12MP के मेन कैमरा के साथ 64MP का टेलिफोटो लेंस दिया गया है।

धांसू है गैलेक्सी S20 के फीचर्स

इस फोन में 6.2 इंच क्वाड एचडी+ डिसप्ले दिया गया है जिसका रेजॉलूशन 3200X1440 पिक्सल है। फोन में ऑक्टाकोर स्नैपड्रैगन 865 7nm मोबाइल प्रोसेसर दिया गया है। फोन 8GB रैम और 128GB इंटरनल स्टोरेज के साथ आता है। फोन में 1TB तक एक्सपेंडेबल मेमरी दी गई है। यह फोन लेटेस्ट ऐंड्रॉयड 10 पर काम करता है।

सैमसंग गैलेक्सी S20 में ट्रिपल रियर कैमरा और बाकी दोनों में क्वाड रियर कैमरा सेटअप मिलता है। गैलेक्सी S20 में 64MP का टेलिफोटो लेंस, 12 मेगापिक्सल का वाइड ऐंगल लेंस और 12 मेगापिक्सल का अल्ट्रा-वाइड ऐंगल लेंस दिया जाता है। कैमरा में 3X का हाइब्रिड जूम और 30X का डिजिटल जूम मिलता है।

गैलेक्सी नोट 20 की लॉन्चिंग का सैमसंग के फ्लैगशिप फोन गैलेक्सी नोट 20 के बारे में भी लगातार लीक्स सामने आ रहे हैं। फैंस को इस फोन की लॉन्चिंग का बेसब्री से इंतजार है। गैलेक्सी नोट 20 में 6.7 इंच की स्क्रीन दी जा सकती है। यह हाई क्वालिटी डायनामिक एमोलेड डिस्प्ले होगा जिसका रिफ्रेश रेट 120 hz होगा। यह स्मार्टफोन IP68 रेटिंग के साथ आएगा, यानी यह वाटर और डस्ट रेज़िस्टेंस होगा। अन्य फीचर्स की बात करें तो इसमें Exynos 990 प्रोसेसर, 12 जीबी की रैम और 512 जीबी की स्टोरेज मिलेगी। फोन में 4,500mAh या इससे भी बड़ी बैटरी फास्ट चार्जिंग के साथ आएगी।
